I picked my kitty Simone up a while ago and After I let her down there was something on my shirt, I thought it was poo but it looked kinda red and I havent seen her go to the litter box lately. So I looked at her botom and it looked like blood to me. She will be 6 months on on the 29th of this month could she be in heat?

She could be in heat, but cats don't have a discharge like that. She would act up and be very vocal if she were in heat. Maybe even do some spraying. It could have come from her anal gland or colon. Sometimes cats swallow stuff that irritate the colon and they will bleed. If you think it's from her urinary tact, then she could might have an infection. Cats will pee blood if it's bad enough.

Is she acting normal or like she's sick? I'd watch her to make sure she is peeing normally, if not get her to the vet NOW. Cats will die quickly if they are completely blocked.

Let me know what you think it may be.

Hugs,

I agree with Cl-Leslie...she could have either an infection or that could be a little bit of diarrhea with blood. One other thing it *could* be is something called pyometra (infected uterus) which will also cause a blood tinged discharge, usually with mucous or pus mixed in - this is usually in older cats and dogs who are not spayed, not so much in a young cat coming into her first heat (not that it *can't* happen, it's just more likely in older animals)...you are best to have her checked - they will get a urine sample to make sure that is not the problem...keep us posted!

Tammy, I am by no means an expert in this area, however if your Simone is only going to be 6 months old, I think that she is still a bit young to have her first heat. But, like I said I am no expert on the reproduction system in cats. It is possible that she is in heat.

I would have her checked out by your vet as soon as possible. When Sammy's UTD flairs up there is always blood in his urine, but I have never seen any actual bleeding from his back end.

Good luck and I sincerely hope that there is nothing seriusly wrong with Simone.
