Hiyas!

I have a new question to ask : Why would a cat suck and nibble on their owners ear? Lilly was laying on my chest this morning, she got comfy and began to knead my neck. A few seconds later she nuzzled into my hair and began to suck and nibble my ear. To say the least it tickeled like crazy! *LOL* Is this normal? Is it a sign of affection or contentment? Should I deteer her from doing this?

I think it's a sign of contenment. I would not deter Lilly from kneading. Sort of like when she was a wee kitten and nursing from her mom she felt content and safe snuggled up to her mom. Sammy is almost two and he does it every night before he falls off to sleep. He can be a big suck. LOL.

Kneading is perfectly normal and is a sign of affection. The licking and nibbling is probably a form of grooming. My cat Sophie sometimes licks my hand and then occasionally she nibbles too. I've noticed when she licks herself, she'll sometimes bite herself gently, so it looks like it's a grooming habit. If it annoys you, then you can keep her away from your ears, but it seems to be a normal habit.

Hello Yvonne!

Thank You for responding to my post. The kneading doesn't bother me at all. I was just curious as to why she was sucking and nibbling my ear. I'll take them both as signs that she loves me! :)

Hiya Sammy!

Thanks for your view on this situation. I will just take her actions as telling me she loves me and is happy that she's found a new warm and loving home. I don't mind if she kneads me the sucking and nibbling on my ear is what tickles! *LOL*

Hi again Michelle!

Like everyone else here has already said..it's completely normal. Kneading is a sign of contentment. The ear nibbling thing is not abnormal. Sometimes when a kitten is removed from it's mother too early they will do that. Isabelle does it from time to time and she purrs like crazy. Lilly will probably grow out of it anyway. Enjoy the closeness w/ her while ya can!

Hugs,

Laurie
