I finally talked to Misha's vet....

It had been over 24 hours so I called the vet's again and just by chance she answered. She thought the vet tech had answered my questions, which she had not. She was about to go into surgery but I got a few minutes to ask her questions. She didn't seem to like me questioning the decisions of the other vet who saw Misha on Monday. I told her her symptoms didn't totally match the description of Cystitis on the web. She said it depends on what type she has whether she has a high ph or any crystals. She said I can continue giving her the Clavamox 2 x a day (even though she admitted she herself prefers to prescribe Baytril, which Misha had taken for her URI last month, and only had to take one pill per day). I told her Misha had thrown up yesterday and didn't seem to want to eat much since. She told me not to "hover" over Misha and just let her "be a cat" and she might eat more. (Maybe the vet was in a bad mood today?) I told her I was leaving her alone plenty of times and was not hovering. (Actually, Misha tends to eat more if I am there in the room with her. She follows me around a lot anyway). She said if she throws up again it's probably because Clavamox can upset her tummy. She said at that point she'd have me only give her one dose a day. (I told her giving her 2 pills a day plus the liquid Prednisolone has been very difficult). I questioned why I had to give her Prednisolone which suppresses the immune system. She said it was to reduce inflamation because of "spastic" urine dribbling. I said I had not observed Misha dribbling anything, and that she urinated normally in her box. (They must have misunderstood me on Monday?) She said if that's the case, I can discontinue giving the Prednisolone. (Yeah!!! She just spits some of it out the side of her mouth anyway). I hope I'm doing the right thing in badgering them about this drug. I just don't want to harm Misha's immune system, but at the same time I don't want to cause her inflammation. Did anyone's cat here who had bladder infections have to take Prednisolone?

I told the vet Thomie is in hiding in our basement from the stress of having a new cat in her environment. She suggested I give her 1/2 dropper of "Rescue Remedy" from a health store 2 times a day for a few days to naturally help calm her down. Has anyone here used that?

Dh just called & said she's not eating. I really think it's the Clavamox upsetting her stomach. I wish the vet would let me cut the dose to once a day, or just switch her back to Baytril since she ate just fine when taking that.

Any advice is most appreciated. Thanks for listening to my update. :-)

Hugs,

Suzy

It is good to know that in most cases it doesn't hurt too much. I think poor Misha was just in pain from the bleeding perhaps....I'm not sure. I guess it makes sense to have a sterile sample to know for sure what bacteria, etc is present internally and to not get anything from the outside to taint the results.

Thanks again & have a good night!

((((Hugs to you, Sammy & Misha))))

Thanks Chris....I am seeing if she continues to eat & does not throw up again, then I'll stick with what she has. Otherwise I'll call her about switching. It seemed to help a lot to cut back on the dosage.

How's Scooby doing?

Hugs,

Suzy

Hi Suzy

I worked with Drs for years and they will never question the methods of other Drs.

I'm so glad the Rescue Remedy is working. I guess the alchol in it is to preserve it.

You are absolutely right about doctors. Thanks for the insight :-)

Misha is doing so much better on just one pill a day. She's been begging for food today, which is good! She also has not thrown up anymore. I gave Patches some Rescue Remedy today since she was doing so much hissing. You won't believe it, but she and Misha are sleeping on the bed together just one foot away from each other! I took a photo and will get it posted this weekend. ;-)

Thomie & Boots haven't shown themselves yet. I will have to go looking for them.

Thanks for all the hugs & kk's! She loves them!

I have a hard time getting rest myself lately. I need to take your advice and try, though.

Have a great night & hugs & kk's back to Misha & Misty from all of us!

Evening Leslie!

I am very pleased with the Rescue Remedy so far. It's helped both Thomie & Patches so they don't constantly hiss at Misha. I can see them become calmer. I just squirted the half dropper full on their tongues and they seem to like the taste. I may but some drops in their water, too.

What type of drops does Trouble use? Thomie had Aktrol drops 3 times a day. I don't know if they burned at all, but she seemed to realize we were trying to help. (Her eyes look so much better now). I hope sweet Trouble's eye clears up soon. (((Hugs)))

Misha is much happier with one pill per day. (As am I, LOL!) Her appetite is back and she's no longer throwing up.

Have a great evening!

Suzy
