Hi,
I adopted a kitten close to a month ago. He's about 3 months old. I also have a 3 year old cat. I posted because I needed advice regarding the two getting use to each other. My older cat tends to be agressive and at first surprisingly accepted the kitten. He tends to play really agressive with the kitten, a few times I had to break them apart. I'm keeping them seperated when I'm not home and when I'm home but are unable to closely watch the two of them play. So far they've been getting along fine.
Here's my new problem. As I was cleaning the family room this afternoon I found feces on the side of the entertainment center. I then looked behind the entertainment center and found more. What would cause a cat to do this? The kitten started using the litter box right away. He uses the one in his room as well as my other cat's litter box. It's not like I have problems with either one using their litter box. I'm not sure whose feces it is, at first I thought maybe it was my older cat rebelling? At times we have to keep him in the bedroom so the kitten has a chance to roam around the house. My husband feels it's the kitten marking his territory. I've heard of cats marking their territory w/urine but w/feces? I don't know what to do and hope this doesn't continue. My husband was hesistant w/the kitten in the first place and I don't want this to be a reason to give him away. :-( Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior???
Please respond, I'd really, really appreciate any advice on this subject.
With sincere thanks in advance,
Pam

Hi Pam.
Hmmm.... when was the last time either cat saw the vet? I ask because most kittens have worms, and even if they were dewormed before you brought them home, sometimes the medicine doens't get them all... and the poor little fella might have worms again. Of course, then if he does, so does your other cat because they spread through the cats using the litterbox. They might be pooping outside the box because of worms. I always like to make sure its not a mdeical issue before I decide its a beahvioral... better safe than sorry.
Good luck!
