Could he be ill? I would have never let him out as they pick up so many things out there.

No, I don't think so. He was just in the house for about an hour and was just fine, no panting. So maybe he is just overly exctied about being outside.

Unless he could get my pneumonia...but he isn't showing any signs of being sick.

God Bless

Hi Jen!

The panting thing could be normal for him - Boo Boo panted after exercise up until he was about 3.

Jen, please do not let Porter outside, especially since he is front-declawed. Indoor only cats live much longer, healthier lives.

I just read your cat is front declawed. He shouldn't be outside at all. If you have a yard I would build him an outdoor cat enclosure that he can go in and out of from a cat door or window. just4cats.com has about 8 pictures of different types you can buy. About the panting, is he excited? Having a reaction to the different smells? Is he going from a heated home into really cold weather? If you cont. to let him outside I hope you are with him since he could be in big trouble if he got lost or challenged since he is declawed. Donna

I don't see anywhere where Jen has said her cat Porter is declawed other than another poster saying what you said - maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions assuming he's declawed until she clears this up for us.

Hi. I went back through posts last night before I responded to Jen's post. In message 27294.1, she wrote the following:

"Porter got outside and now I can't find him. I crack my window open just a bit because my room was really stuffy and i was barley open 2 inches and he got outside. I walked around for over an hour looking for him and now it is to dark to look. it is so hard to express how I am feeling right now. I just feel like the worst kitty mommy on the planet!!! Please say a prayer for him. He is declawed on the front!"

The thought of a declawed cat being outside unsupervised terrifies me (decreased ability to defend itself). So, although I have always lurked on these boards previously (since 2000), I felt I had to respond.

If I am wrong about Porter being front-declawed, I apologize to Jen.

Well, clawed or declawed no one is cutting anyone down. Just commenting on "if" the cat is declawed he will be worse off/in more danger outside than a cat with claws intact. Everyones concern is for the cat. Donna
