Kichi in the kitchen!

When I brought Kichi home the Friday before last she wouldn't eat all weekend. She seemed interested, but only sniffed at everything I gave her. I was concerned so on Tuesday when I went into work I talked to the Vet and he gave me some Cyproheptadine to stimulate her appitite and when I got home Bryan and I gave her a pill and closed her up in the bedroom with wet and dry catfood for a few hours. When I went to open the door to check on her she bolted out of the bedroom jumped onto the kitchen counter, grabbed a bag of hot dog rolls, ripped them apart and started eating them! LOL She never touched the catfood! her previous owner must've only fed her people food! I went out and bought some tuna and lunch meat which she eats ravishingly, and when we ordered out food the other night she ran off with the garlic bread- we had to chase her around the house! She absolutely refuses to eat catfood - if I don't feed her tuna she won't eat anything for days! Has anyone else had any experience with such a finicky eater? I know that people food isn't good for her and I hate giving it to her!

Imigosh, that's hilarious! I used to have a cat who liked bread, donuts, stuff like that.

I know that the advice everybody always gives is that the cat won't starve herself to death. if you offer her nothing but cat food, she'll eat it eventually. Sounds like you're going to have to go that route. You're right. People food isn't good for her, but sounds like that's what she was used to.

Good luck!

I always used to say that cats won't starve themselves but since I've been working at a no-kill shelter I've seen cats not eat for so long that they get severe liver damage and there's nothing you can do for them after that. Kichi went 4 days without food and I'm afraid to not feed her something I know she'll eat after a certain point. Our vets advice has always been feed them whatever they'll eat - b/c the important thing is that they eat something, but for prolonged periods she cannot go on eating people food!! I'm at wits end here!

That is so funny, but sad at the same time.

A friends cat came from a shelter. He wouldn't eat anything. Finally got him to eat Purina One dry food, over any other. She ran out, tried other cat food for a week, we have to drive 40 miles one way for this brand, I went over to let her borrow some of my dry food and you could feel this cats backbone. I'd offer the cat food and give the kitty people food also. There are vitamins from the vets clinic that are in a tube like toothpaste or hairball medicine. You give the cat a small amount each day. I think it is tuna flavored. I have a couple of cats that like corn, cornbread and anything with tomato sauce in it. My sisters cat loves key lime pie but won't eat "people" meats. Donna

I'd try mixing the cat food with human food one or two times only. My Amber wouldn't go for that, so if your kitty doesn't either, then there's no reason to keep doing it. lol I used to feed my Amber Whiskas pouch wet food. There's at least 10 different flavors so perhaps you could look into those. I mean, you'd think ONE of the flavors would entice your kitty. lol

BTW, my Amber eats anything with bbq sauce on it. BBq ribs, chicken, pork, Pringles. She even licked plain bbq sauce off my finger. She also likes potato cheese soup. She doesn't get these things a lot. I'm always concerned about that they might give a bellyache or something. It's so weird what she decides she likes to eat sometimes. I had leftover bbq ribs and chicken strips one day. I figured she'd LOVE the chicken strips. Nope. Wouldn't touch them. But she gobbled down the tiny bits of bbq ribs I gave her. Goofy kitty! lol
