kitten food aggression

I have a kitten that I brought home from the no-kill shelter that I work at. I brought her home because she got sick and I wanted to make sure she got the meds in a timely manner. She only has one eye, which is another matter. Well, we have bonded so much that she will be staying with me and my other cats, which have totally accepted her. Anyway, she went from sharing food with 15 other cats at the shelter to being fed by herself at my house. She is also given deli chicken as a treat, which she loves. This past week (she has been at my house for 3-4 weeks now) she has started growling at anyone who gets close to her when she is eating, including me. I have seen this behaviour before but I don't want it to develop into a serious problem as she gets older. Should I just figure that it will go away as it has with past experiences? Has anyone had a cat that had this problem and it never went away? I tried doing research on the internet, but all I came up with is dogs with food aggression. Even though she only weighs 1.5 pounds, she gets pretty scary (especially with the chicken). Oh yeah, none of my cats even try to take her food, so I don't know why this has started.

Try just petting her gentlely when she eats so she sees you will not take it. Bless you for taking her!!
