Kitten Trouble

We took in a tiny kitten almost a month ago and he has gone through some rough times already. He almost died and had to stay at the ER Vet for a day and a half and when we brought him home he just got better and stronger and he's developed a little personality and he's amazing. We weaned him from his kitten formula to just straight wet food and he was doing good for about 5 days then he started having poop the color and consistency of the wet food and getting bloated so we took him to his normal vet where we were told he was dehydrated and backed up so we were sent home with a medicine to get things moving and told to feed him yogurt with his wet food and lots of water and pedialite. The last 3 or 4 days he's done well with it and his poop went back to normal dark brown and hard like a normal cat's, Then today he's had the wet food poo again :( any comments or suggestions? We didn't use the digestive medicine for a day because it said use as needed and two feedings we didn't give him as much water and pedialite but I don't think that's the problem :( other than the pooping he's active and alert and loves to play and cuddle. We feed him every 4-5 hours

Thanks for taking in this baby.....it can be so hard.

Did the vet deworm the kitten? Most have internal parasites of some variety and it sounds like that may be his problem. I would make sure that was done and if not, have your vet run a fecal test to make sure there isn't something else going on.

Keep us posted.....

he's still very active and eating a bunch he's gained three ounces in 3 1/2 days and his stomach isn't getting too bloated but we just worry about the consistency and color of his bowel movements

I would repeat the dewormer. And it may be the type of food. I had a cat at one of our remote adoption centers - they switched her from Purina One and her system couldn't handle it. Switched her back and within 2 days she was fine.  If you have been feeding the same brand, it may be worth considering changing to something else....Iams makes a good kitten food and honestly, my fosters get Kitten Chow.
