Picked up my newest kitty this morning. She was spayed yesterday. She looks fine, is purring but hasn't eaten today. I will be carrying her for a re-check tomorrow if she doesn't start eating. Should I put her on an antib. now? I have some. Is this normal? Donna

It is essential that she eat something, even if she throws it up - studies have shown that when an animal is fed post surgery (with the exception of GI surgeries which can't have food right away), it help speed up the healing process.

I remember your loss, maybe thats why I am so watchful. Update: Rosie stayed in her open cat carrier all last night, I put water on her lips, she got up this morning and ate. She is on the bed now watching a bird feeder. I believe she is ok, her incision looks fine. I will be watching her very closely. I've only had her a few weeks, she is black w/white colorings. A sweetheart. About 6 mos. old, was born behind a walmarts and living there. A rescue lady I know feeds the kitties that end up there. I asked her to trap Rosie for me. We recently placed several younger kittens that were also born there. We plan on trapping the mother cat soon, she is preg. again, very feral. We are already trying to line up homes for the soon to arrive babies. The mother cat (according to the rescue lady) has had at least 35 kittens, most are black w/white like the mother cat. They are all sweet dispositioned. I don't know why this rescue lady hasn't trapped the mother cat way before now. I'm leaning on her to trap the cat after her kittens are 6 weeks old or so. I have a rescue group 2 hours away willing to help. Donna

I just can't leave a poor, homeless cat if I can manage to catch it. Thank goodness I don't live in a large town where I see that all the time. I get so depressed and can't enjoy my day. I know you can't help them all, some are too feral to catch and even if trapped wouldn't tame up. Again, I rarely see stray kitties in town. I am helping another woman from a town 20 miles away with the ferals. I've gotten most of mine from the streets. Donna

Rosie seems to be taking it easy. Ate some of her can food this morning. I'm watching her closely. She also got her rabies shot. Wonder if its a side effect of the shot. Donna
