Kitty's little problem

Hi, first time poster here.
I'm house sitting at my mom's house, and her cat seems to have a little potty problem. A month or so back, she noticed he was pooping in the puddled drapes in her dining room. When she went to clean it up, so found worms. So he's been treated for the worms, but he's still going in the drapes. I've pinned the drapes shut so he can't get into the little "tent" at the bottom of the drapes, but I'm afraid he's just going to find a new spot to go. My cat's been visiting, but only for the last day, and he's been doing this for weeks, so I don't think that's the problem. I cleaned out the litter box (guess what, it was pretty clean) and there wasn't much litter in there so I filled it back up and put together a whole new box just in case he was shady about sharing (my cat isn't. She's never had a single potty problem.)
When he was a kitty, they had a problem with him urinating on the futon. He's stopped this, but he does have a history of potty problems. I have no idea if she's changed brands of litter, but she's always used the non-clumping kind. Any ideas?
