"Lion Cut" for Cats-Anyone Tried It?

Well, I've decided to get my medium long (but VERY thick) haired cat a "lion cut".

I wanted to do it primarily to give him some heat relief. My apt. is soooo hot in the summer, I can tell he's miserable.

Secondly, it would give us both a little break from the seemingly endless hairballs! My poor carpet is littered with stains. He'll get a break from yakking them up, and I'll get a break from cleaning them up!

Anyone had this done for the reasons stated above - especially the hairball issue? Did it help?

We haven't tried it, but were considering it on one of our cats. His hair is ridiculously long, and he's orange, so it would be cute. Let me know how it turns out. We are on a budget it right now, so we can't do it yet. I think it will be cute!
