Mange?

Me once again

So after taking a closer look, the vet tech at my work thinks my cat's bald spots could possibly be mange. She thinks it may have started with ringworm, and since the spots have gotten bigger, redder, and more flaky, she thinks it could be mange. She gave me "Program" to try. I rubbed it into his fur between his shoulder blades.

What is mange exactly? I've seen a few dogs with it, but never cats. I know it's not contagious to humans, but I have other cats at home i have to worry about. I'm going to try program this once, and i'm going to keep applying the hibitane cream to the areas. Have any of you guys had this problem? How does it go away?

Did she rule out scabies? What you're describing sounds like scabies, too. It's treated with 2 doses of an oral medication, and sometimes requires a second course of treatment.

Both of our cats had it when we got them from the shelter--bald spots with scaly skin--and recovered with treatment.

Just a thought.

Demodex is a mite that normally lives in the hair follicles of living creatures (even we have it, mostly in our eyebrows - I know gross but they are normal...).
