Misha Update & Patches Debacle...

First my Misha report after visiting the vet today:

She was up to 7.7 lb! (Remember when she was only 5.9 lb?) I must make sure she doesn't get more than 1/2 cup a day from now on. LOL It's good to see her at a healthier weight, but I don't want her to continue gaining. They decided not to do a urinalysis today. When the vet heard me say her urine was normal looking (no visible blood) and that she was energetic, eating very well, and had completed her antibiotics for 14 days, she said she should be fine. She had a temp over 103...but maybe that was from the car ride over? Her injection site soar is possibly infected. She's been licking it and it's red & inflamed. The vet prescribed Panolog (antimicrobial/corticosteroid) ointment to put on her wound once a day for a week. (If she keeps licking at it I am going to buy a collar like Pink is using on Daisy, to use on Misha). She got her rabies shot today, and didn't like it much. She is to go back to the vet in 11 days to get her leukemia shot with no adjuvent (if I decide to go through with it). I think maybe now (or as soon as her wound heals), that we can celebrate Misha finally being 100% healthy & happy! My vet was impressed at how friendly and loving she was...even to HER! (She said cats aren't always that happy to see her. LOL)

Now the bad news....

Poor Patches' eye became infected today. It looked bad, just like Thomie's had a few weeks ago. I called the vet when I got home from work and noticed it. They didn't have time to see her, but they said not to give her Thomie's eye drops, but to stop by and pick up some Vetropolycin ointment (triple antibiotic) to put in her eye twice a day for a week. Now for my huge debacle which I feel AWFUL about. I got home with her ointment and set it by Misha's tube of ointment. I don't know what on earth possessed me to accidentally grab MISHA's tube and I proceeded to put her skin ointment in Patches' eye! She didn't act like it hurt, and she rubbed her eye with her paw, but I didn't think anything of it. About an hour & a half later I happened to look down at the tube I'd used and saw Misha's name on it. When I realized what I'd done I asked dh what I should do. He said we should put her correct ointment in her eye, which he did. I couldn't stop thinking about my mistake and feeling terrible. I looked up the drug info on Pet Meds online. It said that Misha's medicine should NOT go in the eye...so I felt even worse. I called the emergency vet clinic and asked them what I should do. They said it wasn't good for her eye, but just the one time shouldn't cause any harm. They said to flush her eye with saline solution and wait until tomorrow morning to put in her correct eye ointment. (I was too humiliated to admit to them I'd already put the correct ointment in earlier). I flushed her eye with saline (which she didn't like) three times. I hope I rinsed out most of the Misha's medicine from her eye. I still feel very bad and hope there won't be any permanent damage. :-(

Do you think I can pray Boots stays healthy? LOL She's the only cat who hasn't come down with something.

Hugs to everyone!

Suzy

Glad to hear Misha is doing well! That's great! I remember when Asher weighed like 5 lbs. He gained weight quick...he goes to the vet in September for his yearly checkup and I'll find out how much he weighs. Last time he went he was about 9 or 10. I'd say he's about 11 or 12 now. They grow up so fast! :)

I hope Patches eye gets better soon! It sounds like you did the right thing by washing out with the saline solution. It was an easy mistake to make and it sounds like she should be fine.

Thank you Kristen. I am trying to tell myself that she'll be fine. How I worry about my furkids! LOL

I hope your Asher has a good check up in Sept. You'll have to give an update on him. They do sure grow fast, don't they?

Have a good night!

Thank you Pink! I feel like a vet tech. LOL Now if I could just figure out why Misha is yowling at 11:30 at night when we're trying to sleep. ;-)

I am so glad that Misha is better and is almost done with everything!! I had panalog cream for Dusty all the time so as far as the eye if you washed it it should be fine!! Do you think since both cats had the ey thing that is is contagious like say pink eye in people. Keep us posted and you need a healthly house soon!!

That is great that Misha is finally well! I'm sure her sore will heal just fine.

Poor Patches. Don't feel too bad about putting the wrong medicine her eye.

Poor Suzy! Glad to hear Misha's getting better. :o)

That multiple medicine thing is a problem, isn't it? I adopted 3 adult cats on the same day. Within a few days, I was giving eyedrops to Daisy, eardrops to Abby & amoxycillin to (thus the name) Moxie. I'm glad I didn't mix them up. Moxie got so ill she had to stay in the hospital for several days. I sympathize with you.

Hi Pink!

I sure hope she doesn't howl tonight. LOL

Thanks for the idea about a guestbook. I wanted to create a new site for the furbabies and will put one there for sure. :-)

Thank you Chris! Misha doesn't like when I put the cream on her....I wonder if it burns?

I think the eye infection is probably contageous and when they're under stress it probably lowers their immune systems. Patches tried to hide when dh came home from work. She knew it was time for the medicine! LOL

I'll keep you posted. :-)

Hugs,

Suzy
