Misha's Friday Update...

Well I took Misha once again to the vet this afternoon. They were so excited to see her after 11 days. Both the vet and one of her assistants were kissing her....giggle! She has gained weight...now she's up to 6.9 lb! That's a whole pound heavier than she was when she was at her worst. Her temp was 100.9 which is great. The vet noticed she had about a dime sized scab on her back where she had gotten all those injections when she was sick :-( She must have had a reaction to them. She said there's a risk that when the scab comes off that the fur won't grow back. She said I can put a warm damp washcloth on her scab 10 minutes a day for a week and this may help stimulate the follicles so the hair will grow back (Please pray it does...it would look strange if she had an obvious bald spot to live with for the next 15 plus years). More good news....they did a fecal test and there are no more parasites!

We discussed her shots. They gave her the second URI/Distemper shot (she had the first one at the humane society over a month ago). The vet said it would be easier on her immune system if we give the other shots a week apart. She gave me info on the leukemia one to consider. She said it's unlikely anything will ever happen if Misha doesn't get the shot, but our other 3 have had it (according to the vet....I didn't know that) with no problems. She said she had known one cat who tested negative but had kittens that were all positive & died. They realized the cancer was in the bones and she was shedding the virus to other cats even though she was just a "carrier". Other cats in this cat's home have since died. This is the reason the vet said it's good to have the leukemia shot in multiple cat homes where you never know if one cat might be a carrier. She said the decision is mine and to think about it. She said she only uses shots without adjuvants. (These are what are known to possibly cause injection site sarcomas). She feels it would not cause a problem, but she will let me make the decision. I am still undecided. Misha will also need her rabies shot. I am getting her shots in one week intervals so her immune system doesn't have to deal with them all at once.

Thomie's eyes are looking better. I will continue giving her the eye drops until Monday.

Thanks again for listening & for your thoughts & prayers for my furbabies!

Hugs,

Suzy

Thanks so much Pink! My babies are getting better....I just wish they'd get along. LOL Misha hid under the bed last night because of the lightning & thunder. She chased poor Thomie downstairs again today. She sure is fast! She's sneezing a lot still, but at least she's acting ok otherwise. She hates the warm compress treatments. I can't figure out why. I think she doesn't like to be held in one spot for 10 minutes.

I am hoping your little Daisy will be able to have surgery soon. I anxiously await the blood test and then hopefully x-ray results.

Thank you very much Gwenn! I've read that immunizations without adjuvents may not be that effective but that's what my vet uses since adjuvents are what has been linked to injection site cancers. It's good to know you've had no problems with the immunizations. I'm so sorry to hear you lost two babies to FeLV. I pray your other babies will be just fine. Let us know how the test goes in Sept.
