Misha's home from the vet's....

I wish my own vet had been in today, but there was a different one who fills in for her. They took a urine sample using a needle into her bladder (she cried so much she was in such pain) :-(

They said there were tons of red blood cells, also she had bacteria, some white blood cells, & protein present. This vet said it was Cystitis (though I am not sure of that since I looked up the symptoms and Misha does not strain to urinate, or just have drops. She urinates normally, but there is blood in the urine. The info I read said cats rarely have bacteria present with Cystitis. It also said cats with it have abnormal urinary Ph. Misha's was only 5.5 which is in the normal range. It said affected cats have crystals, which Misha did not. I am confused as to whether this is what she really has?) I am sure we're dealing with some sort of infection, though. I pray her kidneys aren't affected. They said they can't tell at this point. I will call my own vet once she's back tomorrow to see if she agrees with this vet's assessment. They gave her a shot of penecillin and Dexamethasone. The vet gave me 2 weeks worth of Clavamox to give her twice a day along with her wanting me to give her the liquid Prednisolone again to reduce inflamation and increase her drinking. (1 cc twice a day for 3 days, then 1cc once a day for the next 3 days, then 1 cc every other day for the remaining 8 days). She has gained weight again up to 7.1 lb and had a temp of 102. I told them I won't have her get any more immunizations until she's better. I will take her back in in 2 weeks to be re-checked unless something doesn't improve in the next couple days and she needs to be seen sooner.

I know she's going to hate getting 2 pills per day along with liquid medicine. She must think I'm out to torture her. The vet assistant said the Humane Society where I got her was putting lots of cats to sleep because they have too many. I was told they leave cats up for adoption until they are adopted. The vet tech said I saved Misha since she has been so sick they probably would have taken her off the adoption floor....and you can guess what would have happened. I get so emotional thinking of what could have been and I pray so hard she will fight these infections and be healthy & happy soon. She's my little angel.

Thank you for your continued positive thoughts & prayers & support.

((((Hugs))))

((((Chris)))) Thank you for the reassurance. I really need that right now! I remember when my dad's dog had blood in his urine and I think he had to eat a special food along with medicine and it cleared up. I hope it will clear up soon with Misha as I hate to see her in pain. (Besides the fact that seeing one's furbaby bleed scares the ......out of me!) I have seen the vet more in the past month with Misha than I have in the past 3 1/2 years with my other 3 girls. I will really have to get her a special thank you gift for all her efforts & care.

Hugs & Special Snuggles to Scooby!

Yep at that time we did switch Dusty to c/d Science diet that is for that. I guess it helps decrease the crystals! Keep me posted and all the prayers you need are here!!!!

Thanks for sharing your story about Tasha. You (and your dbf) are so wonderful to have rescued her! What special diet do you have to feed her? How long did it take for her to recover? I pray her ringworm will go away soon.

I think they could have gotten a sample from Misha without the needle. It really broke my heart when they told me what they did and admitted how she'd cried. :-(

Thank you for your continued thoughts & prayers!

Suzy

That seemed like drastic measures having a needle to obtain urine since you saw the blood but maybe it was necessary as she has been so sick in the past and they did need to diagnose it fast.

Hi Suzy,

Sammy was on the Hills S/D diet (dry) for about 8 weeks.

You are so sweet Jane! Thank you again. I am wondering why my vet hasn't called back. It's been several hours. I know she had surgery to do, but I believe she was leaving today around 3pm and now it's almost 4pm. I think they aren't calling.... :-(

I will ask if they can get a urine sample without the needle next time. The vet tech said there was lots of blood. I am worried about her throwing up today. We'll see how she does later on.

Hugs,

Suzy

Thanks for the food info Patrick. I will definitely ask about it when the vet decides to call me back. If she's gone home already I am tempted to call her there. I want to know about the Prednisolone before I give any more to Misha. I dislike it since it hurts her immune system.

We have one of those Pet Mate fountains for our other cats. I think I may bring it upstairs for Misha since she likes running water. Thanks for the advice! :-)

Misha is a little trooper....she puts up with so much without complaint. She's worth all the effort to help nurse her back to health.

Hugs,

Suzy
