hello, i am new to this board and have a question. okay, heres the story... i moved out of my mom's house about 6 months ago. and i had to leave my cat there. but now, i am bringing my cat to my apartment. i broght him home today. the thing is, my bf's cat (a female) has been living here the whole time we have. she is in heat right now and very vocal. my cat (the one i brought home today) is male, and nuetered. i have him in the bedroom with the door shut so he can explore and the other cat cannot get to him. they have been sniffing around the door, hissing at eachother and that kindof stuff, but i want to make sure that her being in heat is not going to have a bad effect on how they communicate. my cat has never lived with another cat (he is old, like, 8 years) but my bf's cat has (she is only like, 2 years old). am i doing the right thing by leaving him in the bedroom and all that? sorry so long, but any input is appreciated!

YOUR BOY FRIEND NEEDS TO SPADE HIS CAT OTHER WISE THERE IS GOING TO BE ALOT OF PROPLEMS. SHE COULD STAY IN HEAT TELL SHE FINDS A MATE OR GETS SPADE. THEY WELL BOTH START SPRAYING. TELL HIM SHE WELL BE A LOT HAPPYER CAT IF SHE IS SPADE. JOANN

thank you! yes, we do need to get her spayed. he is neutered, thank goodness. i know about the sharing thing. he has his own bowls and litter box in the bedroom with him. so thats not an issue. i never thought about switching rooms, thats a good idea. they can explore where the other has been. should i leave him in there for a week? or longer? i just hope he will be happy in there becuase hes used to having a whole house to run around in! what is feliway spray and what does it do?

The length of time you leave your cat in the bedroom depends on how the introduction is going. If they start playing pawsies under the door, then they may be getting ready to meet each other.

right now they seem to have calmed down a little. she is good about not bothering him, but still being curious. he seems to be a little stressed (of course) and he hisses almost every time she makes a noise. so hes mad, but shes nice to him. i think shes also a little scared. is this normal? where can i get that stuff?

Cats a very territorial and they don't like strange cats in their homes, so yes it's very normal.
