I am new to this board, but I have lurked around before. However I cannot take this anylonger and I need some advice on how to handle this.

My Cat just had kittens 2 1/2 wks ago. Just before she had the kittens she started to hide behind my computer desk in a "hole" between it and the wall and she would poop. I also caught her doing it behind our washer and drier. But then she had her babies (3 of them) and she continued to go behind my desk. She doesnt pee outside her box, if she does, it is outside. My husband and I thought that it was because it had a lid to it and she felt confined in there and thought we might shut her in there and get her babies from her. So I took the lid off and moved it into the same room as her and the babies. THIS DID NOT WORK!! She still goes behind my desk, she has gone in my sons bedroom, and I just caught her again today in a new spot. Her litter box is cleaned out, it is in same area as her babies...what else can I do to get it to where she will go in the box? I am hoping to get this figured out cuz I do not want to get rid of her, but if she keeps it up, I will have no choice. Thanks

Hi! Sorry to hear about your problem. There are a couple of suggestions I can pass on from having talked to people at our local Humane Society about something similar. One suggestion they'd given to me was to put extra litter boxes in the places she goes back to, and limiting her access to keep her away from other areas. Another is to use bitter apple spray as a deterent, by spraying it on surfaces you want your cat to avoid. Here's a link to their cat behavior web page:

http://www.wihumane.org/expert/catindex.html

There's also an independent group of animal behavior specialists they use as a resource at the shelter, and I should be able to find a link to their web site if needed. Let me know if you do, and good luck!
