Need kitty condo suggestions!

Alrighty all you kitty lovers out there! Most of you know me by now, but to recap, I've got 2, 4 year old cats, and 1, 5 month old, boxer. The cats have never had a dog around, so the last couple months have been interesting to say the least! Boxers are very active and he constantly wants to play with them. He's starting to get bigger than they are so the cats would rather stay away most of the time.

We're moving into a new condo soon (yeah! Our first owned place!) and I want to make sure the cats have a place that is "theirs". We are able to train Clydas (the boxer) to stay away from areas and rooms, so we think we can train him to stay away from a kitty condo.

Which ones are the best? We don't have time to build one right now. Boxers tend to be pretty tall too (medium to large dogs), so I want to make sure they are out of his line of sight as well, so I'm looking for a tall one.

What do you use? Do you have any sites that have good discounts on this stuff? The one I liked for the house ran $250!!!!

Thanks!
~jay

I know the ones at Petco are so$$$$ I found Walmart to be cheaper and if you have a Big Lots store they are really cheap!

Thanks for the tip! We don't have a Walmart nearby (and even if we did, I don't think I'd shop there! LOL), but we have a couple different Big n' Lots! I didn't even think to look there! :)

I bought the $30. tall tree from Walmarts. The shelves are too small for a cat to really sleep on, its ok for sharpening claws and a quick run up something. I got a really nice cat tree from pets plus store. It has a tunnel with window near the bottom and 4 curved shelves large enough for a cat to comfortably sleep on, it spirals up like a staircase. Its very tall. Carpeted. On 6 posts of different heights. They are cedar which the cats love to scratch on and one is sisal rope. They can climb the cedar post like a tree. It was $198. on sale for $138. The tree from pets plus was the best thing I've ever bought for my cats. There are 3-4 on it all day. I ordered another tree from the cat fiesta site. Don't waste your time or money. It was over $100. and the tunnels could barely fit a bunny, the hammock was never used by any of my cats and the carpet was a fake fur with no padding under it, you could see every cat hair on it for miles. It actually feel apart in my dining room before 6 mos., like the screws holding it together were suddenly stripped. The cats did use the tree alot, we were going to have to recover it with carpet though. Check fostersmith.com, petco and petsmart.com Donna

Thanks Donna! If you get a chance, can you see if the sites have what you're describing and post a link to it (or e-mail me with one, but I think other cat lovers might like it as well)? That sounds great! :) I definately want them to have room to sleep.

And thanks for the tip about cedar! All of our cabinets in the new kitchen are cedar! We'll have to keep the cats away from those ASAP (though they don't really claw up anything - except for the back of an old couch we're not taking with us, but I think it's becuase they smell the other dogs and cats that we've had in the past).

I have seen a couple of really nice ones at Costco lately for around $100. I know it's a lot of money, but they last for years. I think mine is about 5-6 years old and the cats have used the heck out of it.

If you're familiar at all with using Ebay, I have seen so many awesome ones on there that you can buy or bid on, I think a lot of them are home made.. I have yet to win one, but I did buy a cat tent on there for 15$ that my kitties absolutely loved! Here's a link if you want to have a look.
