I have a wonderful cat, Chrisma. She is a housecat but snuck out one night..bad kitty, and got pregnant. April 21st we were blessed with 5 kittens. My question is: do mama kitties wean their kittens on their own, or do I need to initiate it like with puppies? TIA!!

That's great news. She is young(I think) herself. We rescued her from the pound last year. As soon as those babies are no longer dependent on her...off to the vet. And yes, they have hit that 'awwww' stage. DH just keeps saying 'no' lol. But I have always thought that cats need a friend to hang out with lol (and she hates the new puppy). Thanks so much for your quick reply.

I love my kitty. I have her and the kittens in my sons' room with a baby gate up to keep them in and the puppy out. Well DS didn't put the gate up last night, so we woke up to loose kittens! LOL..Chrisma was on the coffee table just watching them. I think she is ready. I would almost say the she was trying to lead the them to the food (but it is on the dryer). That's another long story..LOL..Chrisma will NOT eat after the puppy.

Just noticed I have my hat..many apologies.

So does that mean you are going to keep a kitten or two or more?
