Obsessively needy cat!

Hi. I have a 4 year old male cat named Figaro. My best friend rescued him as a kitten from a parking lot and we think he wasn't quite weaned because he would suckle on our ears and fingers. Fast forward 4 years and he's JUST NOW stopping the suckling. However as the suckling is fading, his general neediness is getting worse. When it's bedtime we sleep "spoonlike" with his head on my pillow. My other 6 year old male cat sleeps between me and my husband and lately I've been making more of an effort for snuggle time with Achilles because I don't want him to feel neglected. That's where the trouble started, about a year ago and is just getting worse.

Figaro goes out of his way to do anything and everything he knows he's not supposed to. My reaction is the squirt bottle first and then when (not IF) that starts to fail I go and get him. I think this is what he is aiming for because I will pick him up and sit back down and he will curl up on his back like a baby and go to sleep. If I let him sleep and snuggle until he chooses to

Welcome to Cats & Kittens.

While Mo isn't that bad, he has pesky moments.

Welcome to Cats and Kittens.

I think Jeanne gave you a good suggestion.

Thank you for the advice!! I didn't even think about trying to wear him out. Now that I've read that it does seem like he's bored. My darling husband is quite the crafty guy and loves fun projects. I was going to have him build me some shelves for my computer room that form a "cat tree" up to the window and then up to a "sleep shelf" above the window, I will likely have him build in some toys too. My mother in law is 84 and has severe arthritis. We bought her a laser pointer to play with the cats so I'm going to ask her to do it consistently throughout the day. They do get bored with it after about 15 minutes though so I will have to get her some other toys too. Thank you again!!!

It is definitley a learned behavior. I'm such a pushover! He's just the most adorable guy ever and when he whines it triggers my "awwwwwww! SNUGGLES!!". Mom's going to have to "unlearn" the behavior too!!!! I'm going to look into cat toys. We don't have a lot of money but I think alot of stuff could be built! Thank you!!

Yeah - it is hard to give it up when they want to snuggle.
