You know what? Maybe I should just go kill myself! (I don’t mean it literally, so don’t freak).
First 2 years of hell for Itchy and he dies. Over the last year of the 2 we have 1 year of hell so far with Electra and she wants to starve herself to death and her kidneys are faltering. Then Hamlet jumps into the fun 4 months ago and had been diagnosed with Lumbosacral disease AND Spondylopathy. The vet says he is in some pain (he said imagine wrenching your back and living with the pain EVERYDAY) but we are hoping the stuff he gave us last week is/will help (I forgot the name). If we see no improvement after a 3 or 4 weeks we try Duralactin next. In the mean time the progression can only get worse not better. If he is having a practically dab day we are to give him 5mg of pred for 2 days. If it gets a lot worse the vet said that could mean his nerve ends may be fraying or coming out of the spine. Only an MRI could determine that, and I would have to drive or fly him to the closest vet university (<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Washington State). Lets hop that does not happen as I do not want him to get that bad!

David,
Take a deep breath, I know this has been so hard for you and it's so unfair that life has dealt you these cards.
You mentioned that you will be taking Hamlet to a chiropractor, right? That should help him if you stay consistent (which you already said you would).

Unicorn21,
Sorry about your back problems. :( I am happy that you can live with it (I mean you are not bedridden and in horrid pain). *grr that sentance sounds dumb, but I hope you know what I mean.*
Yes, I will make sure he goes to a chiropractor as often as needed. That sucks big time, as the one that was at my vets will not be coming back now. SHe lives south of Missoula which will be a 3 hour drive! My vet is looking for a closer one and I will call the one Hamlet went to and see if she knows someone closer. I also intend to locate an acupuncturist if I can. Problem is here in Montana... No much abound. *sigh*

I don't have an answer for you, but you are truly getting your share of health problems with your furkids.
I did some quick searching on the internet, and I came up with a website for the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association:

I did a search for doctors in Montana and it listed 4. I hope one of them is close enough to you:

OH MY GOD!!!! I am lost for words here... I thought of Itchy this weekend as I read the paper.. there was a band in the 60"s that called themselves "Itches". I wondered if that is where you got Itchy's name.. David, I don't know how you do all this.. emotionally AND financially.. all I can do is give you my support, hugs and prayers...

I can't affort it. I spent every last penny on Itchy plus 8k on a credit card. Now I am working 2 extra consulting assignments just so i can afford to pay it back in a reasonable time. I was getting close to considering a 2nd mortgage to cover Itchy's cost if I had to. :(
I just will never say I cannot afford helping our cats, I will do what ever it takes, 2 3 4 pt jobs, selling my things. My cats are the most important thing I have. I put a very high value on life, be it animal or human. The gift of that divine spark is so rare (when you consider the size of the universe) and special that it deserves all the nurturing and help it may need to remain lit. I could never ever imagine not helping any animal or person when it came down to it, or at least I would be willing to kill myself trying.

Unicorn21,
Wow, thanks! I'll look at the links as soon as I get home. 4 is more than the 1 I know of!

The woman who fixed the feral kitten and let it go in our development (rather than being gassed by that kill-shelter in NJ) named him. When we spoke outside we would talk about the cats in the area, who ate where and more trusted what porch, which to keep an eye on and such. I believe (but do not quote me) he was named because when he came to the shelter he was flea ridden and scrathing all the time. Because I did not want to call him something different from what she called him I kept with it. :)
