people who don't like cats

WE have a beautiful, sweet orange & white striped tabby.

We had guests over for dinner recently. The woman, as soon as she walked in our door, said to me "get that cat away from me. I HATE cats".

I feel it was rude. She could have said "I don't LIKE cats", not "I HATE cats". I just took it very personally. If you are a guest in someone's home, do you make a statement like that?

Thanks for understanding. I don't think I will invite this person over to my home again, I didn't like her outburst about my cat. I locked him up in another room when she said that and kept him away from her for the rest of the evening (and, kept her away from HIM!). My husband told me she didn't mean what she said, but I know that she did mean it. She has horrible manners anyway, she doesn't even like to write thank you notes for gifts and complains about it. I've told her in the past not to worry about it, that we don't need a thank you note from her. Oh well...

Our cat is about a year old, we found him as a stray when he was starving. We adopted him. He's just adorable. He purrs all the time.

I hope you don't consider this woman a friend. That was very rude!!! I would have told her as I do all of my guests, "Well, the cats rule the house." I wouldn't have put them in a room either. My cats trounce all over my guests and my guests understand that is the way it is in my home. I wouldn't have said "well you can leave if you hate cats so much." But I wouldn't have encouraged her to stay either.

GRRRR.. I hate people who hate cats.

Well, my cat didn't understand why I locked him up. He meowed and meowed. He felt like he was being punished for something. It wasn't fair. It would have been fine if this woman had just said "I have a cat phobia" or something like that, but not it was "I HATE cats!" She's not my friend, she is more of my husband's friend actually.

I know she got annoyed one time when I was over at her home, and she felt like I wasn't paying enough attention to neighbor's baby that everyone else was cooing over. I just opted out because I wanted to converse with the other adults, not fuss over the baby. I'm not a baby person, but I would NEVER have been so tacky as to make any rude comments. She ha this hang-up that she thinks animal lovers make their pets more important than people.

I personally have no respect for people who don't like cats or any animal for that reason .. Little boy rarely comes out when we have company and he only comes out for certain people if he comes out I expect you to acknowledge that he is here by petting or talking to him that's it .. It is such BS when someone says that cats are evil and that stuff ..
