Pooping on the rim

I have posted about this before in passing but I think I need a little feedback.

My girls share a litterbox in the bathroom that is lined and has a rim that snaps onto the edge of the box to try and help litter splatter. But, every now and then (like 4 times in 2 months) they poop on the rim and not in the box. I can't tell who it is and I am not convinced it is on purpose. It looks to me like one of them just "missed" because I would think if they were rejecting the box they would have done it on the floor. Anyone else ever seen this?

Thanks!

Yes, I have seen this at my house ocassionally. I think they just turn the wrong way to go and that's where it ends up. It also could be that one of them doesn't like to get into the box for some reason or another and goes on the side. Like if it was used before her or something like that. Cats a funny about their litterboxes sometimes.

You might ask on the Think Like A Cat board and see what they think. If you do let us know what they say.

Yeah that's a good idea. I think they are actually still standing in the litter box but their butt hangs out or something! :)

I have a similar problem with Sammy when his UTD flairs up. Although he doesn't poo on the rim of the litter box, he often pees over the side. I know it is not intentional, his aim is off. He has pood on the floor once, but that was when I was cleaning out the litter box and he had to go.

You might want to try removing that piece that prevents excessive cat litter on the floor just to see what happens. I have one of those too, but took it off the litter box as it makes the area in the litter box a little too small for a large cat. Also, with Misha, it didn't make a lot of difference as that girl digs like she's digging for gold and the litter is always on the floor.

I think it is much easier to sweep up the litter on the floor than to clean up cat poo on the floor.

All the best,
