I used to work long hours in NYC. I wasn't home as often as I am now -- and paradoxically (or is it?), NOW is when she's behaving like she's attention-starved.
At this point, I'm job hunting and sometimes (on weekends) hanging out at a boyfriend's. But she always has food and water, and I'm home 70% of the time, and my mom is also home an overlapping 70% of the time.
Is this big house making her anxious?
She sleeps on my bed. She's terrified of the dark, but she's okay if she's next to someone.
She's also becoming obsessed with the Half & Half my mom sometimes gives her. And a treat I give her, Temptations by Whiskas (crunchy with a creamy center). When she screams at me, I give her Temptations (probably not a great idea to reward her? I'm just not sure why she's always screaming at me).
Thanks again for your $.02!

If you give Lucy a treat after a loud meow, you are training her to continue the behavior. She sees that she gets a reward for it. I would try to remain calm when she meows loudly and maybe play a game with her, rather than give her a treat, or give her some pets. She may be upset about the loss of the other cat she was getting close to. Cats do mourn for a lost pet or person. She will probably settle down after a while. Having regular play sessions with her should help her adjust.
