About a week and a half ago, my cat scratched my toes under the toenail in the middle of the night. It bled and was sore, but seemed to get better. Yesterday, it suddenly was very swollen an infected and sooooo sore. I called the doctor to see about an appointment, and they said they would quarantine the cat. I just told her never mind and hung up, because it sounded so bad. But does anyone know what is really involved? What do they do? And I don't understand why they'd have to do that if she is my cat and I know she has had her shots...?

The only thing I can think of is they want to make sure your cat doesn't have rabies., but that is usually from a bite, not a scratch.

As long as it was a scratch and not a bite, you don't have to quarantine her.
