sad news for a stray/feral

We need a crying emoticon. DH just called to tell me that he found a dead cat in the open part of our shed. I don't know this cat and probably have never seen it before - but I'm sitting here at my desk at work with tears in my eyes.

It is so sad that something like this happened. This may have been one of the "invisible" ferals I was feeding on my patio. (I knew there were cats out there, but had only seen an orange one for certain - but saw others in the shadows.) I now know why the food has hardly been touched lately. It must have happened within the past week and a half or so as I had been out there about that long ago.

Since DH is just getting over the flu and all his other health problems, when I get home tonight, I will dig a hole in our back yard and bury the cat. I guess that's all I can do for it now. :(

Please everyone - light a candle for this unknown cat - that he/she has found the Rainbow Bridge and peace and love.

When I got home yesterday, I dug a deep hole for the "unknown kitty". I had never seen this cat before. It was fairly small, mostly black with some white. He/she must have been eating the food I was putting out each night.

It was a pretty sad thing to have to do. But, at least in death he/she got some of the respect and care that should have been given during life. I only hope that he/she died painlessly.

Just the night before, I decided to stop putting food out. Some tomcat is peeing at our doors - and of course, we smell it. I also don't like the idea that Zipper can smell it (he doesn't need any bad ideas!).

But, seeing this unknown kitty dead made me rethink my decision. At least I know this kitty probably ate some of the food I had put out there, perhaps making life a little easier, even though death came much too soon.

I may just move the food further from the house - and maybe the cats will stop peeing on our doors. Last night the food was hardly touched. I'm not sure why as I know there are cats out there.

Peace, love and happiness to you little unknown kitty.

I'm so sorry. Lets hope the kitty died of natural causes, old age quickly. Its wonderful that you are putting food out. I'd move the food away from the house if possible, maybe put out a cat house or two if possible unless you already have. Donna

That is so sad. But your actions show that it is another ALeC (if you remember my posting of him about a year and a half ago... if not: www.coolcybercats.com/alec.htm)

It is nice to know that people do care.
