Chalimar, my blue-cream tortie scaredy cat who hides the minute ANYONE comes into our condo...had a break through tonight. My cousin is out of town, so I invited his wife over to hang out for the evening. When she arrived, Chalimar high-tailed it into the computer room to hide. However, after my cousin's wife had been here for awhile, Chalimar came wandering out into the kitchen. She didn't come close, but she came out to see who was here. She also decided to lounge on the kitchen floor for about half an hour, in plain sight.

I was so proud of Chalimar, I gave her a treat and LOTS of praise! I'll get her comfortable around visitors, if it kills me! It's only taken 6 yrs to get her this far!

Chalimar is a really pretty cat. And big. Not fat, but really tall, with a 15in tail. She was a really intrepid kitty when I first got her at 4 months old. But I think after 6 years, she's gotten used to being in a quiet, 2 cat 1 human household. She just doesn't like having other people around. If she decides to come out from hiding, she most certainly doesn't want to be petted. And if she gets in a cranky mood, watch out. She's so big, that for the few people she comes out for, if she gets cranky and charges at them, it can be unnerving. (Not for me. I stand my ground and tell her to cut it out.) My mom and I are working with her, though, so that someone other than myself can pick Chalimar up, in case of an emergency.
