Is this sexual behaviour?

We recently adopted a kitten from the local shelter and were told that our kitten, who we named Binx, was 4 months old. I've always read that cat's don't start puberty until about 6 months, but there are times when it looks like Binx is trying to mate with our 6 month old, neutered, kitten, Skeeter.

If Skeeter is laying down, Binx will come over to him, put his front paws on top of Skeeter, start kneeding, then get really close to him and bite on the scruff on the back of his neck. I've seen the male cats to this to the female cats, so I picked Binx up just now when I saw him doing this and turned him over...sure enough there was his little "thingy." *Blech!*

Since he is from the shelter, and was a stray, and we therefore can't be certain about his age...should I go ahead and get Binx neutered instead of waiting until we "think" he's 2 five months?

Is this behaviour normal in growing kittens? I just don't want Skeeter to feel like he's being molested! *Laughing*

He may be thinking he is getting milk as our kitty does that with our puppy!

Thanks Leslie! I think we WILL get him fixed ASAP...that Binx is still unaltered seems to be causing some spats between the two boys. So, maybe once they are both neutered, they will get along a bit better. What do you think?

I think that neutering will help them get along better.

Well, we have Binx's neutering appt. scheduled for Oct. 26...my birthday! It's the same vet we take Skeeter to, so we're comfortable and confident. When I called the vet and explained to the vet tech. what was going on she started laughing at the situation. She said that, based on the fact that Binx has been teething for a while, he's probably b/t 5-6 months old rather that 4 months like the shelter told us. This explains some things. :) It also explains why neutered Skeeter is so interested in un-neutered Binx's "parts." ('What's going on down there?') Heehee.

I'll let you know how the neutering affects their friendship. Thanks everyone!

It sounds funny, but he is trying to establish his place. I have seen it before. Yes, getting him fixed should help on that. It will also help keep either from spraying.
