Soft carriers for cats....??

Hi! I'm new to this board and was hoping that someone could either help me or maybe point me to another source that could help....
So, this question has been inspired by two dreams I've had about trying to get out of the house (because of a fire in one, and flooding in another), but I can't carry three hard carriers, so I panic and end up wasting all of this time trying to figure out how to save all three of my cats.
It got me thinking about what I would do if something really did happen. I've decided to try to find three of the soft carriers since they often have shoulder straps. To that end, does anyone have an opinion about these types of carriers? What to watch for, what not to get, brands that are better or worse, where to find them

I have never read anything that is either for or against soft carriers. I believe you basically need to look at the construction of it. Does it have plenty of ventiliation? Is the bottom and frame firm enough to support the cat? Aside from ventilation, you need your kitty to feel safe and a flimsy carrier won't make them feel that way. I mean, *I* wouldn't feel safe being carried around in a flimsy holder, ya know? I'm sure cats are the same way. ;-) I would also make sure the material doesn't shed or tear easily. You don't want your kitties to swallow anything. I hope I'm helping some. I don't have any specific brand advice or anything. These are things that I would look for in a soft carrier. My other suggestion would be a larger hard carrier that all your cats would fit in. You probably wouldn't want to use it on a regular basis, but I'm sure it would work in the event of any emergencies - unless being somewhat crammed together just won't work for your kitties. Then stratch that idea (and no pun intended).
Oh - welcome to the board!

We use the Samsonite soft carrier and love it. In a pinch, we can cram both cats in it at once. Well, actually, they cram themselves in--I don't know how they fit. One is 10# and the other is 15# (and slimming). The carrier has plenty of ventilation, as well as top and end entrances. It also has a shoulder strap, which makes carrying it very easy.
My only complaint is the fact that the doors close with a zipper, so you really have to watch their little tails! It was also challenging to get our old cat (who died 11/03) in it because he kept popping out while we were trying to zip it shut. Our new cats really like it, though.
