Still skittish...normal?

So we've had Columbo 3 weeks and he's still super skittish. He only comes downstairs to the main floor at night after the girls are in bed (occasionally he ventures down during the day, but never stays more than a few minutes). I understand it to a point, but should I be concerned that he spends the entire day under the bed? Is it that he's just nocturnal, still getting used to things, or could something be wrong?

His food and litterbox are up in our bathroom. I'd like to transition him to eating downstairs, but I'm afraid this will throw him off. How do I move his things without upsetting him? He hasn't had any accidents since those two pooping incidences a couple of weeks ago (since I took the flap off the litterbox).

So essentially, should I be initiating the mainstreaming, or let him do it in his own time?

I would just move the food and box slowly, like even a foot or so every few days , just give him time. Sit byt the bed and read or something and he may start coming out to see you more

Sometimes it takes awhile for cats to get used to their new homes. Just be patient with him and let him come out on his own.
