I have been feeding a mom and her 4 kittens for about a month or so. We have caught all 4 kittens. They seemed a little snotty, but otherwise pretty good. I took them to the Humane Society here. Now we're trying to catch the mom. So far she hasn't fallen for it. Then she looks at me w/ those eyes and tiny meow and I feed her a little. Yesterday I thought she was going to walk in the house. I want to get her checked out and fixed. I have faith she'll make a good pet. I hope this isn't wishful thinking because she hasn't let us touch her yet, but I'm also not really looking for a lap cat.

It sounds like you are doing everything right now it's up to her to go into the trap. That's good that she is talking to you and getting to know you better. I'm sure she will love the box with the light to keep her warm.

Good job with the kittens and for helping the mom. If you still had the kittens, I would have suggested using them as "bait" - you leave them in a carrier behind the trap and the mom (sometimes) goes in to check on the babies. Doesn't always work, but sometimes.

I hope she turns out to be friendly. I have a feral former mom cat that I am feeding - I leave my garage door cracked so she can have some place warmer to sleep and dry to hang out and leave out a shelter and food and water.

We want to take her right to a vet when we catch her to make sure she's ok before we bring her around our cats.  I got her to come in the garage and "talk" to me tonight.  DH is working on a box w/ a light in it to help keep her warm until she gets her little hiney in my trap!  :)

That's wonderful that you were able to catch all 4 kittens and get them to the humane society.  They must have had kitty colds.

I hope that you can catch mom soon so you can get her spayed and inside.  If she is that friendly already then she will probably come around once she is inside and around you more.  Are you using a live trap to try to catch her?  Hopefully she will get hungry enough to go in it.   It's always good to have new cats checked out by a vet before getting them around your other cat or cats if you have any.

Good luck and keep us posted on how it's going.
