Taking Boots back to the vets....

When I spoke with the vet this afternoon and told her Boots is still dry heaving whenever I try to touch her, and she's only eating a tiny bit of dry food, drinking no water, and thankfully eating some canned food, she said she would like me to bring her in tomorrow morning (Thurs) and leave her for a few days so they can "observe" her. I told her the vet bills are getting a bit overwhelming for us, and she said we should not worry (I'm thinking she won't charge for the overnight stays. She did this courtesy for me when Misha stayed a couple nights there back in June, also). I am torn. If she doesn't know why Boots is dry heaving, shouldn't she refer me to a specialist? Boots absolutely hates to be confined to a cage. I think she'll be stressed and miserable there for 2 days all by herself. Will it help at all? I am sure they'll probably give her fluids, but otherwise I doubt she'll eat more there than she would here at home where she's more relaxed. I guess I'm just not sure it'll be of any benefit to Boots. I pray the vet knows what she's doing in this case. Dh is worried Boots may have eaten something (like the styrofoam popcorn we found that must have fallen out of a package), and he's thinking maybe it's stuck in her tummy? I am not convinced this is the case, but the x-rays had shown her stomach to be full of what they thought was food. I hope it isn't anything else. We are grasping at straws trying to figure out what's causing her to feel so sick. If it is just a virus, as the vet theorized, then staying at the vets office (and being left alone & unattended from 6pm-7am each night), in my opinion, won't make any difference. It'll just cause stress for Boots. The virus (if that's what this is) will run it's course no matter where she stays. I'm just so confused about what's best for Boots. I just want her to get well.

Thanks for once again listening. You are all such wonderful friends!!!

Thanks for the very good suggestions Cat! We are about to take Boots in now (She looks so depressed....it breaks my heart), and I will mention these possibilities to the vet. I think an ultrasound is in order (rather than exploratory surgery, which she told my dh about yesterday) to see what's in her stomach, and I think a specialist should be consulted at this point if our vet doesn't know the cause of her symptoms. I will see how it goes. I will stop by after work to visit Boots and she how she's doing (& keep her spirits up). It's always hard to leave them overnight. I missed Misha terribly when she was at the vets for 3 days. I think Boots is going to be there about the same amount of time.

I'll check back in later....

On a possible related subject...what is your opinion on this, my kitty I have is the one I posted about in May, abused, kicked ect...at the local high school, brought to me, extreme urespir. infections, took 5 weeks to get rid of, countless vet tripe ect...also has a hernia on stomach area, the vet wanted to wait and fix it when she needed spayed. Will probally have this all done within a week or so. She is about 7 mos. old. She has always, nearly daily, heaved (acted like she was going to throw up) but she never does get sick. Could this be from the hernia? I'm concerned about her being put to sleep for the surgery because of this. Any ideas? donna

I hope they find something,I also would hate to leave her as I know how stressed Tiger used to get and explain to the vet that you think that may make her worse. I think they need to find out and making her feel worse is not going to help. I know what you mean about vet bills, they can really be a lot and I think you have already spent so much and need some good luck, keep me posted!

They should be ok..have you talked to the vet yet yet. Here is a note I just sent to Jane

When I go today I am going to try Ellie and Scooby alone and loose so hope ok. I hate to confine her,she is just snooping everywhere! DH will be home 1 hr after I leave so will not be to long. Lat night Scooby was chewing a bone and she kept running by and doing a little jump in front of him to get his attention,it is like she is flirting and wants him to chase her! It is so cute when they walk sideways and jump!!!!!
