Throwing up???

We have a 5 year old cat (estimated age by the shelter we got her from), who has just recently started throwing up her food in the middle of the night.

My Annie developed a habit a couple years ago, where she'd eat some food, turn around and puke it up, and then sometimes re-eat it. I know, very gross. The vet checked her out, and suggested it was happening because she was in competition with the other cat for food. Per his suggestion, I added another food dish in another location. Result: Both cats ate MORE food and got fat, and Annie STILL would eat-and-puke. My personal determination, is that she does it when she's working on a hairball. (Ex: Last week, I got up several mornings, to vomited cat food on my kitchen floor. 2 days ago, the hairball finally appeared.)
I'd say have the vet check the cat out, and see what they suggest. Then you can make the decision as to what you want to do.
