Thats interesting. I wish my vet didn't since it makes me a bit uneasy. She said that even though our cats are indoor only and all are FELV negative, she'd recommend it because she said she has one rare case where the woman's cat tested negative, but turned out to still be a carrier for the disease. This cat ended up infecting all the other cats in the household and they died. She does not use any adjuvents in her vaccines (which she claims causes most of the injection site carcinomas). Does this make sense to you? I'd really value your opinion & your vet's opinion. Misha's now had the leukemia shot, and we're contemplating our new kitten also. (Our other 3 cats have all had the shots....which I didn't realize before until I asked). So far none of them seem to have had any adverse reactions to them. (Thank God). Does your office vaccinate for chlamidia? Our vet says it is part of the 4-in-1 annual shot that the cats get, but the breeder of my Burmese has her only do a 3-in-1 shot, leaving out the chlamidia part. Maybe that's unnecessary also?

Thanks for your feedback & advice!

Hugs,

Suzy

That's just one isolated case of that happening though so you need to take that into consideration - she's a little paranoid it sounds.

Thank you for all the information! I will have to ask her about the titer (not sure what test that is). I would prefer not to give the girls the leukemia shots if they don't need them. I feel so guilty already about having given Misha the two-part leukemia shot (3 weeks apart). It was my dh who felt I should....I am still worried, though. The 4 1/2 mo old kitten has not had any rabies or FELV shots yet. I guess the rabies will be necessary, but I'm just not sure about FELV anymore. Our vet gives the 4 in 1 shots once per year.

Did the FELV shot your kitty had gotten vaccinosis from have any adjuvents in it? I am so sorry to hear about your loss. That is very sad. (((Hugs)))

So you think the chlamydia part of the 4 in 1 is good to have even if they are inside only and won't step paw inside a shelter anymore? (I guess maybe it would be in case they would get sick and have to stay overnight at the vet's around other cats?)

Thanks so much for your expertise. I really appreciate it! :-)

Suzy

I'm not really sure if there were any adjuvants in those vaccines, they were much different than the ones used today...the ones today are supposed to be much safer (we only use one brand, it's a killed virus made by the Fort Dodge company).
