I don't know if I've talked about this on this board. Our neighbors have a male cat who is definitely not neutered. Apparently, he's an indoor/outdoor cat. Well..naturally, he loves to come down to my dad's since Amber's around. Amber's spayed, so she's not having anything to do with. He's crying up the wrong tree, so to speak, in that department. LOL Well, this male cat has been annoying me for a while cause it just will not go away and cries and cries - not just because of the whole mating thing, but because he wants attention and food. The neighbor's house caught on fire over Thanksgiving weekend and while they've been out to the house to clean, etc. they haven't really done anything with their cat. Okay - I was really really annoyed with this cat for bothering my Amber so I didn't like it too much. But on Saturday, it was digging through my grandparents's garden and eating scraps of paper. So, now I feel bad for it. My dad never sees the neighbors when they're out there and we don't know where they are staying. My dad is not nice when it comes to cats and is about ready to kill it. I'm sorry if that offends you all. He simply doesn't like cats but along with this is the fact that he truly does love Amber. It's a little weird. So, I'm trying to convince him to call one of our neighbors who works for animal control so he can take the male cat to the shelter.
Do you think this is a bad thing? I guess I feel guilty because my Amber roams around. So does my dog Samantha. In other words, they aren't confined. But they also stick close to home. Amber sleeps all day and hunts at night, so I can't definitely say how far she wanders. I guess I just feel like I'm throwing a fit over something that I do myself in regards to my own pets. But on the flip side, my pets aren't annoying the heck out of the neighbors either. lol Then comes my caring instincts kicking in and I sooooo want to feed this male cat but I can't cause Amber will have a fit (doesn't like other animals), my dad will throw a fit, and we'd really never get rid of the cat. Plus, the poor kitty needs to be taken care of.
By the way, since my dad knows who's cat it is, I highly doubt he'll kill it. This cat's been around since probably the summer and he's not dead yet. But he has killed other strays, mainly because he doesn't want Amber getting hurt or sick. I know it's horrible. I don't like it either although when either of my furbabies get hurt or have problems with other animals, my first instinct is to hurt the animal whose hurting my baby. I have never done so, but it is my first initial reaction.

I'm really not sure what you're asking because there are too many negatives here.
Your father hates and has killed cats? Why? What if he hated one of his neighbors - what would he do then? If I knew that one of my neighbors was killing animals - cats or otherwise, you better believe I'd call the police and animal control. It just isn't right.
If your father has killed cats before, how do you know he wont do it again to this neighbor's cat?
Why is your initial reaction to want to hurt another animal because it might have attacked yours? Keep your pets indoors and this wont happen. I truly don't understand people who allow their cats to wander outside - it is just too dangerous. If you choose to allow your cat outside, then you have to face the reality that it will get in fights with other cats or animals. It also runs the risk of being killed by someone who has the same mindset as your father. It could be hit by a car, injured by someone unkind, uncaring person, attacked by a dog, contract a deadly disease by another cat - i.e. feline leukemia.
If you are not with your cat when it is out wandering, how do you know it isn't bothering anyone else? If you're not there, you have no idea what she may be doing. Cats are cats - and some people are annoyed by them just by being in their yard - as your father evidently is.
If this reply appears too harsh, it isn't - its reality. Outdoor cats, including yours have a higher risk of bad things happening to it - and a shorter lifespan. Cats do NOT have to go outdoors, contrary to what some may think. They are quite happy and much safer indoors.
Animals are forever - and so is their love.
I have to agree with Zooker.

Its probably illegal to kill animals in most places. If it were *my* father, neighbor or whomever doing it, I would report them immediately. It just isn't right. No one is raised to kill animals - i.e. cats. What kind of parent would teach their kid(s) that killing cats is o.k. just because they stray into your yard???
I agree with you about contacting the humane society. And, if it were me, I'd report anyone doing any harm to any animal. Someone has to stand up for the animals' rights! They cannot defend themselves against someone commiting an act of cruelty or killing.
My theory on pets is that they are given the "perfect life" - isn't that why we have them - to provide love, caring, concern, kindness and then on top of that - to spoil them and spoil them and spoil them! :D (Zipper Cat hardly ever gets yelled at - and its only when he is about to do something that will hurt himself.) If I couldn't provide those simple things, then I would not have a pet - it wouldn't be right in my mind and heart.
I've recently became a vegetarian because I love animals - and do not see fit to be eating them any longer. However, it is legal to eat meat - and I wont condemn anyone for doing so. But, to be illegally killing animals - I just cannot provide words of support for that.
Animals are forever - and so is their love.
