water splashing

My kitten, now 5 months, constantly dips his paws in his water and tosses it out. It started out as knocking his dish around until it was empty. I velcro-ed it to a cloth mat and he still managed to get the water out. Then we decided to get a heavier water dish, one with the little water tank attached to it. He then just began pawing the water out, leaving a huge puddle behind, half emptying the tank. Most recently, we bought a plastic mat to put beneath the water dish and he still manages to flood it and knock the water all over. It's beginning to ruin our hard wood floor (faux hard wood)! We play with him regularly, and have NO idea what to do. Have thought about a circulating dish/fountain, but we're afraid it will provoke the playing (since the water would be moving). If anyone has any ideas, please give me your thoughts!
Thanks!!

Hi Lauralee1321.
I think the 2 ideas you got were good ones. My Daisy stills splashes in her water, & she's 11 years old. Sometimes it sounds like she's doing cannonballs in the dish. LOL. She also puts her paw in the dish, then licks her paw, & uses this extremely slow method as a way to get a drink. She's crazy! Then she walks up my wooden stairs w/her wet paw. I keep a rag right there to wipe up the wet paw prints so it won't ruin the stairs.
Good luck!
