We need some serious help here. You have likely read my Itchy updates in the past, and I would usually toss in a blurb on Electra… She is not doing well. We cannot get her to eat at all.

Fast Background:

Electra is about 13/14 years old. She has megacolon and must go to the vet’s every week at least 1 time to get an enema as she has no way to easily poop. She has never been a good eater, being about as finicky as a skinny super model before a big shoot. Also her kidney levels are showing the onset of kidney problems.

Hi David,

I'm not quite sure what to tell you. I'm really very sorry that Electra continues to not want to eat. I know that ^Molly^ started not eating and the vet gave me one of the canned foods (I can't remember the initials of it) and I had to stir it with water and try to shoot it in her mouth - basically force feed her. You almost have to do that when a cat is not wanting to eat. I don't know if you want to try this or not, but it's about the only way to make her eat I think. I think someone may have told me to try meat baby food just to get some nutrients in her. I'm sure others will have better advice than me, but I know when I had to take ^Molly^ to the vets for fluids, they would also force feed her the same way to get the nutrition in her.

Best wishes,

Cat,

Hi. The vet gave her some kind of anabolic(sp?) steriod injection to simulate her appetite. I made her willing to eat perhaps a teaspoon more only and it has since worn off I suspect (it was 2 weeks ago). Tuesday when she goes in for her enema I

Bridgett,

I'll have to ask Donna about the Tuna water, if she as any problems with that. Sounds like a good thing to try to me though. Is she has no problems with that I'll pick up a little can when we get the pictures.

And yes, when it rains it seems to pour! I am not even dry eyed fully yet, still having several breakdowns a day and now this?! Damn. And Hamlet is not doing so hot. He is not finishing his food now and continues to hang out in Itchy's old haunts, so he is #2 on the worry list for us now, Electra being #1.

Oh David,I have no ideas but just prayers. I thought I had a bad 5 months with losing 2 but you have had a awful week. Do you think she is just upset over itchy. I still think I noticed Tiger going down hill after Dusty left and always wondered how long he would be with us. Take care and thinking of you!

Oh dear David. I'm s sorry Electra isn't doing well. Rusty is a picky eater too, but he's healthy.

Hard to say, Electra did not know Itchy and never net him face to face. Because Itchy was so sick we was confined to the bedroom downstairs in the day and because he always got so upset over Calliope we never let Electra and him interact for fear of making one sicker.
