What herbs are safe to give a cat

My 13 year old cat has had a sore on her back for three years. It was initially caused by application of a popular flea repellent that is squeezed from a tube. She developed a allergic reaction.

In the last three years my veterinarian group has tried EVERYTHING to get this to heal. Their only suggestion now is skin grafts. I really don't want to put my cat through this.

At the organic co-op I found a salve. It is from Moon Dance Hollow and is for burns, diaper rash, etc. It contains olive oil, comfrey, plantain, beeswax, wheat germ oil, vitamin E and grapefruit seed extract. Does anyone know for certain that this can be used on a cat and will it hurt if they lick it off?

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
