There are certain breeds of cats that have spots - the Bengal or the Ocicat but then there are also Domestic Short Hairs and Domestic Long Hairs who can have spots in with their tabby markings.
My Tiger has spots on his sides too and he's a tabby, dsh.
Hey, Donna -- thanks for giving me the impetus to research something I've wanted to for a long time without getting around to. I remembered reading someplace that there are four different patterns for tabby cats, but couldn't remember which was which. But spotted tabby is definitely one of them. Here's the URL if you want to check it out:

Jackie is probably a spotted tabby, David definitely was, but most of mine have been brown/black mackerel tabbies. Thankfully the blotched tabbies (I call 'em swirl tabbies when I'm being polite and not calling them ugly ;P ) that are supposed to be the most common in the world are not that common at all where I live.
Happy Easter!
