I was just curious what kind of litter boxes everyone prefers. Do you use the standard kind, the high sided kind, one with a cover, or one of those automatic cleaning kinds?

We had a high sided one (with the lid removed) for Misha. I wanted to see if her blood was still in the urine, which is hard to do with clumping litter, and yet she obliged me by urinating standing up....and it going over the side of the box tonight. I can't be upset (it got on some of her toy mice....darn!), and I'm actually glad because when I cleaned it up I could see normal urine....NO BLOOD! I am so happy the antibiotics seem to be working! YIPPEE!!!

Dh is bugging me to put the lid on the box now so she can't go over the side. I'm not real thrilled with lids....sigh.

I look forward to hearing your litter box stories...(.giggle! ) and why you use a particular type of box and you can even mention the litter you prefer. I love suggestions.

Off to sleep at last....

On the paperwork Misha's former owner filled out, she said she'd had a covered box. I am just not sure since I worry about odors being too intense in there...or do the filters really help? We have a mat in front of her box now, but she likes to jump over the sides and gets litter everywhere anyway...giggle!

It sounds like what you're using works well. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Chris!

I guess even a covered box won't keep all the litter inside, huh? I'll have to tell dh that. I like them open so I can see if anything is wrong more easily. I know some cats might prefer the privacy of a covered box, though.

I'll talk to you tomorrow....my laptop is running low and I have to go plug it in to recharge.

Sweet Dreams

Sounds like a good choice. I like the higher sides....I guess maybe for older cats it could be a problem stepping over, but it helps keep litter and mis-aimed urine in the box for our younger cats. LOL Thanks for sharing!

Penelope is a lone cat. She has one of those booda domes that reduces the amount of litter she tracks. It also keeps the contents completely out of sight.

The three boys use a giant litter box that used to be a Rubbermaid under-bed storage box. It sits inside a doghouse for aesthetic reasons.

That's exactly right - ^Pudd^ had arthritis on top of all his other problems - he had such a hard time getting into that one so I bought a second one that was much easier for him.

I have never had an odor problem. The only probelm I have ever had was when I was dumb and tried to switch litter and Prince let me know that that was NOT acceptable! ;) I know Pam Johnson(Think Like A Cat) doesnt recommend them but for us they work. Maybe we are just lucky. We have had one since we first got Prince eight and half years ago. When we got Candy in Feb. I watched her carefully and discovered quickly that she was just fine with it. Then Hermoine came a few weeks back. Because she was so tiny, I was afraid the big cover box wouldnt work for her so I went out and brought a simple little box. That silly kitten just kicked the litter everywhere! She has her own room still that she gets lock up in whenever someone cant watch her. She's a little ball of terror right now. ;) After a couple weeks of having to vacuum litter up all the time, I decided to try a big cover box for her. So I set a second one up in her room and within minutes she proved she had no trouble getting in it. To my joy, I discovered that the big cats are using her litter box whenever her door is open and I saw Hermoine use the big cats box yesterday. So none of the three cats have a problem sharing the boxes. I guess we are just blessed in that area. :)

We dont have a problem with seeing if anything is different, but thats us. :) In fact, my nine year old daughter who helps with the scooping, came to me yesterday after scooping Hermoine's box to ask if this poop was ok because it was a little darker then Hermoine's regular poop. I had told her that if anything ever looked different to tell me and she did! I was proud of her and thought that that was just wonderful for a nine year! She is a little blessing and a real animal lover. O, and the poop was fine. I think it was a little darker because the silly kitten got into the adult cat food at one point. Its like having a baby again. ;)
