What's the matter with people?

The Pet of the Day in yesterday's paper was an 18-year-old cat. It started out by saying, "Once she was a little yellow tiger kitten, a little girl's best friend. Then the little girl went off to college, and (the kitty) was brought to the Humane League." What's the matter w/this girl & her family??! After 18 YEARS, they abandon her?! I don't understand people! :o( And it said she weighed 32 pounds when she came in, & is now down to 24. Geez! It said she needs a home where no one will pester her (kids or animals) as she can't move fast & is declawed. If it weren't for naughty Miss Moxie, I'd go get her in a heartbeat.

My prayers for the poor kitty. I know how it is because I have a 16 1/2 year old lady who wouldn't survive if I did that to my kitty. That is just not love for the poor defenseless animal who depends on us humans to take care of them. And sometimes we do such a terrible job. She had a hard time surviving when I was in the hospital about two months back. She lost so much weight but I think she's put it back on.

It really is sickening the way people treat animals like they are nothing. I about had a nervous breakdown when we moved in with my parents just because we had to give away a couple of the cats they had. (They already had five, and we were bringing in one.) Luckily my in-laws were willing to give them a home.

That's awful! I'd get her if it weren't for my dad & brother's allergies.

What is also really awful is what happened to one of "my" (my friend's ) cats the other day. When she was helping at a kiddie camp, her brothers had friends over, and one of their friends put a rubber band on Hannah's (the oldest cat) paw, cutting off the circulation in her paw. She lived, but she would have had to have her paw amputated if they'd taken her to the vet later than they did.

I ought to punch that boy's lights out...Hannah is my baby, too!

I am soooo furious that people would abuse the poor kitty like that! It's cruel to overfeed a cat to that extreme, and it's unimaginable to then abandon the cat when she's 18!! I pray someone compassionate will adopt her soon. I wish I could.

Hugs,

This is terrible. I adopted my first cat last year, she was 7, from my nephew who was moving. If it was me the cat would have been moving with me. I told my nephew when I adopted her (well the truth is she adopted me!)that I saw this as a lifetime committment. You don't just take an animal into your life, have that animal build its trust in you and start to love you, only to cast it aside because it no longer fits your needs. That is cruel. My heart goes out to this cat who must be so depressed.

Isn't that the truth?! I understand that the girl may be moving into a dorm where she can't have a cat, but what the heck is wrong w/the family, that they didn't keep the cat?! Grrr. Poor kitty.

So you've become enough of a "cat person" in one year, to come to a Cats message board, huh? ;o) Isn't it amazing how those kitties work on you? LOL. i was more of a dog person, until somebody gave us a cat in the 70s. I've been a sucker ever since! LOL. One day, after my roommate & i had had that first cat for a while, we were playing w/him, & my friend looked at me & said "What did we do before Spot?" (That was my striped cat named Spot. LOL.)

I have had friends ask me about getting cats/pets. The first thing I stress to them is that they are not getting a new electronic toy/"thing". What they are getting is a family member. Animals are not accessories that you can discard like that or do a half way job for care on. :(
