Worried that I messed up ... help :(

Hi ladies, I'm Sarah. I need your help, I think I messed up big time!! In march we adopted a kitty - Emmet. I think he was about 8 weeks old at the time. I have been wanting to give him a friend. Yesterday I ran across a family that lives here on the same Army post as us that needed to re-home this tiny baby girl kitty who is about 6 weeks old - she thought. We are calling her Patches. She is already the sweetest most lovable kitty. The problem, Emmet is REALLY NOT happy that she is here. He is curious and will follow her around but hissing and growling. Hes getting more curious as time goes on, getting closer and closer to her. I have great hopes they will be good friends one day. I'm just really upset because not only is he unhappy in general that shes here, hes REALLY mad at us. If we try to touch him or pick him up he will growl this awful growl, my DH even said ... "Is he barking at you?!?" It breaks my heart and makes me want to cry. He used to get in bed and cuddle with us every night and then when we went to sleep he would be right between us at our feet. Last night he wouldn't even stay up on the bed, as soon as I took my hands off him he bolted for under the bed and stayed there. Patches wasn't even in the room. We had her in the bathroom. So now I'm wondering if my baby boy will ever love us again?? :( What do you ladies think? Do you think he will come around to both Patches and us?? I figured this would be the best time to add #2 because Emmet is so young. Maybe I was wrong.

I think you need to start by doing a reintroduction

All the posts here have the specifics and I would just add that it will take some time to adjust and for Emmet to realize he's gaining a friend and not being replaced or have competition at mealtime.

Hi ladies, thank you ALL for your info and replies. I wanted you all to know, I read everyone of your post, on my phone lol because we were GO GO GO all weekend. Thus why I didn't reply.

I am SOOOOOOOO pleased to be able to come back and let you all know that my lil Emmet is back to loving us. All the sudden yesterday I seen a change in his lil attitude lol. He helped me do laundry, cooking/grilling and dishes. He follows me around rubbing my legs :) he has also been a crazy lil purring machine. He is also coming around VERY nicely to Patches. They like to play hide and seek around the wall ... creeping closer and closer to each other till they see each other then RUUUUUUUUUUN :) it is so funny and cute to watch. He no longer hisses or growls at her. I'm so happy this is happening sooner then later with them lol, and of course that I have my boy back :) I sure did miss him. I am attaching pics of them below. :) He is maine coon/tabby mix and I'm not exactly sure about her. Since I didn't get her from the person with the mother :( Wish I knew something about what she was. The first picture is both of them, then Emmet and Patches. :)

I'm so glad that Emmet and Patches are doing great together now and that you have your Emmet back again.

I'm Jealous! ha ha,

I added a cat almost 4 weeks ago, and they still are at the 30 second-meeting stage.
