do volunteer work for your local shelter/rescue/humane society?

New Orleans always has a festival going on...even the one I participated in yesterday was called Pet Fest. How many of you all go to different animal related festivals? What kind of activities do they have there? Are your furkid allowed to go and do you bring them?

Just somethings I wanted to know.

Love and laughter,

Yes...I belong to the Volunteer Auxiliary for Animal Shelters connected with the Northern Ocean County Animal Shelter, Jackson NJ. I write grants for them and assist when they have fundraisers. I also volunteer with the Mostly Shepherds Rescue out of New Monmouth, NJ. The last weekend in April there's going to be a "Pet Expo" in Northern NJ. I'll be going with Mostly Shepherds, but I'll probably run back and forth between both booths...LOL...

I belong to DFW Pug Rescue. We have two or three events a year. The next one is a Pug fashion show on June 8.

The community has a PetPalloozza annually at one of our larger parks. There is a dog walk, frisbee contest, adoption center, caricature artist, and so on. We haven't participated in it. Last year we were going to go, but it rained that day.

I am very allergic to dogs. Oddly enough, Roscoe doesn't bother me. I think it's b/c he has hair vs. fur. He doesn't shed either. Thankfully it all worked out b/c that's why we selected his breed. (Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier)

So, for as much as I'd truly LOVE to volunteer at the Humane Society, my allergies just wouldn't permit it! I get hives from my mom's BLab.

And I don't take him very many places with me - we have 2 kids 3.5yrs & 18mo - that's hectic enough. But when I go somewhere alone, I do take him for the ride. He loves it!
