Puppy won't pee outside

Three days ago, we adopted a 13-week-old lab/terrier/hound mix (at least, that's what we think he is), and we're having trouble getting him to pee outside. We are crate training, so he has little access around the house, but he still manages to pee inside more often than outside. He can be outside for hours (on leash in his potty area and/or playing outside with the family) and not pee, but the instant his feet hit the three feet of space in between his crate and the front door, he pees. He poops outside in his special spot just fine, but getting him to pee outside is nearly impossible. I can tell when he has to pee, so I'll take him outside and prompt him to go, but he won't do anything. After half an hour, I'll bring him inside--and he pees inside almost instantly. He'll even pee in his crate rather than pee outside.

I know it takes time to potty train a puppy, so I need to give this at least a few more days, but does anyone have any tips to encourage him to pee outside?

Hi McKenna....and congratulations on your new furkid....how exciting!!

I think this is something almost every new furmom goes through...either the puppy won't poop or pee outside...but prefers inside (usually on a rug...LOL).
