Hello, and welcome to the board! We have a lot of Cocker moms around here!

It's possible that he did pull something and the muscle doesn't bother him as much while he's walking, but when he uses his muscles to jump something is tight or sore. It possibly could be a hip issue as that would initially be more problematic when jumping or climbing than walking, but it would be unusual for a smaller dog his age to have hip problems unless he threw it out somehow.

I'd keep an eye on him and if all else is well, give it some time to see if it works itself out. One of our (small) dogs has pulled a muscle a couple of times where she doesn't want to jump for a few days although she gets around fine. We would just massage her leg regularly and give it time, and both times it took a week or so for it to be feeling 100% again. Hopefully it's already feeling better but as long as it's not getting worse

Hi Rebekah....dogs rarely show pain so, even if your boy has a painful problem the only way you would know is if he is acting odd...which he seems to be.

As CL-Jenn mentioned, he may have sprained his leg, or a muscle in his back.
