doggy odor

I am new to the board. I am currently fostering a dog and have one of my own. I may end up keeping the one we are fostering. The problem I have is that I worry constantly about doggy odor. I have a small house so that adds to it since everything is so close together. I keep my house clean and bathe my dogs but sometimes I think I smell them. I have people visit and I really worry that the first thing they smell will be doggy odor. I probably am obssessing but I can't help it. I use Febreeze but have heard that some air purifiers work wonders. Does anyone have any success stories about using them or can recommend one? Any other suggestions would be great to help me get over being paranoid about this! Thanks!

Welcome to the Dogs Board BACLUS....and I do know what you mean. However, I believe that when you own any pet it doesn't pay to obsess about certain things. Having a dog means having dogs hair around and, yes, sometimes there "is" a doggy odor.

Using Febreze is a good idea, but don't get carried away either. Keeping after the dogs hair (good luck) and keeping your dogs clean is a step in the right direction. Brushing regularly will work wonders. To be honest, when I bathe my girls I put a drop of Pine Sol in the water.

I don't own an air purifier, but I'm sure that there are those on this Board that do and will give you their feedback.

I'm so glad that you've decided to join us on this fun and informative Board. Please join in often and tell us more about you and your furkids.

Hugs,

Laura

Hello, Baclus, and *WELCOME* aboard!!!

CL-Laura is correct ~ odor is sometimes what you have to expect as a pet owner. I also use Febreze (on everything!), but I can't use specific carpet deodorizers because I have allergic cats. I use a hepa-filter vacuum, which helps immensely, and I shampoo my carpet and furniture every 6 months. I also use Plug-ins with the new French Mint scent. (Yum!) I know nothing about air purifiers, but I don't know why they wouldn't work great. Why not ask over on the Rate Your Pets Products board? Someone there can probably help you. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-petproducts

I sincerely hope that you will continue to join us here on Dogs!!

Hugs, *C*, Mr. Higgins, Mandy, and Bob

I have 2 dogs and one that stinks too - I bathe them alot and use my own dog shampoo I make....but FEBREEZE, FEBREEZE, FEBREEZE...and that arm & hammer carpet stuff works wonders too. Also try some bowls of vinegar around to remove smells. I'm paranoid that my house smells like dog too - so I do all the above then light candles and have room spray handy.

Although they aren't as stinky as my husband ;)
