Well- this could be caused by any number of things- including various illness or she may have swallowed something that is causing a blockage and therefore causing her distress

Dogs pant because they don't have sweat glands - so they pant because they are hot or nervous, this could be due to higher temp- but you'd have to take - and dogs have a higher body temp then humans. Being listless and not eating/drinking is a big concern - are her gums pink? - white gums are a sign that not enough oxygen is getting in the blood stream and again is not a good sign. I don't like running to the vet for everything either- but in this case it may take Vet to find out what is wrong.

This morning she seems cooler and isn't panting.

Welcome to the board, Amy, I'm so sorry your guy is not feeling well. I agree with the others about the vet visit, primarily because he's not drinking. Some dogs go through phases where they eat less or aren't as interested in food, but it could be something serious like an obstruction if he doesn't even want to drink. Good luck and I hope he's feeling better soon.
