According to Health Day News, a new study found dog's bond to owner mirrors child's connection with parent. "Dogs may bond as tightly with their owners as young children do with their parents, a new Austrian study suggests.

Researchers from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna wanted to explore a human bonding behavior called the "secure base effect," to see if a similar behavior existed between dogs and their owners." read more

Does this study suprise you at all?

No....it doesn't surprise me at all.  I believe that each dog has his/her own personality just like humans.  There are those that are more loving towards their owners and those that are more stand-offish.  Also, I know with my own dogs, that when they are frightened - like when we have a thunderstorm - they will gravitate towards either me or DH for "protection"...just like a child would.

My Chihuahua Bear is so scared of thunder so he runs to me. Sometime he runs to my hubby. I give Bear Pet Ease to calm him down before a thunder storm starts. My Lily loves everyone but when she needs comfort she runs to me because pick her up and pet her tell it is okay.

Most trainers tell you that by comforting a dog when they are frightened it only reinforces the fear, but it is so difficult not to.  My Cleo is frightened of loud noises and when we had bad thunder she'll come to stand by either me or DH....I always pet her and try to console her because she looks so sad.
