Kitten found...

Our neighbor put him/her up in their garage last night (they have two dogs so clearly not a keeper there but he's cop and wouldn't let a black kitten out when our neighborhood was doing trick or treat).

Our other neighbor found him/her in HIS garage today so he brought him/her to us since Humane Society is closed this weekend (he has a Westie --- again, not a keeper there as Emily Elizabeth is VERY territorial and was freaking out that the kitten was even in the garage!).

We have three cats --- but, said kitten (very friendly, still has blue eyes) now resides in our sunroom and has consumed (inhaled) a full can of cat food, drunk some water, used a sand box (clearly not a feral) and is now curled up asleep in a pile of throw pillows on the couch out there. Our cats have seen it --- through the sliding glass door that closes off the sunroom but no screaming, just posturing.

The neighbor has sent an email to the HOA telling all if they have lost a ktten, where it is. We can't keep him/her either so it may end up at the Humane Society (it's a no kill shelter) on Monday. Shame --- cute kitten and so loving but... our three would probably NOT approve and, given that we don't know the health of this young'n, we don't want to epose our three to possible nastiness...

Poor little thing....it's so sad that you have to worry about black cats near Halloween...but thankfully your neighbor was smart enough to keep her safe.  It's so great that you were able to keep her even for a couple of days...hopefully she'll find a "forever" home soon....

She turns out to be a he... and the shelter has a four-month back-up with a 50 person waiting list for kittens. AAARGH! So we still have him. DH is talking about taking him to teh vets adn getting him checked out but while I think he really wants to keep him, he's waffling on that.

He is a sweetie though --- all purrs and rubs and wanting to sit on our shoulders... That's why I'm convinced he's not a feral but a dump. He's been with people before, is litter box trained and is affectionate...

Meanwhile, our smallest female has taken to hissing at her brother, and while she will sleep with him, she won't eat with him any more. Since she is the only one who actually SAW the kitten, I wonder if she feels threatened...

Do you think he is just lost?  How old do you think he is?

I always thought that my Cleo was "dumped" at the shelter by her owners, even though they said she was found.  Some people should not be allowed to walk the earth.....

We think he's not much older than 8 weeks... His eyes still have that kitteny blue tint although they are changing ...

out where we are, if no one from the HOA claimed him (and they've had since last Friday), he would have had to be from one of the nearby farms. I've never seen a barn cat this socialized so i doubt he's local.

It's embarassing but DH put on a sales pitch and our housekeeper now has said kitten, two bags of kitten kibble and a promise from us to pay vet bills and neutering- and the name of our forner black male (Mr.. Beau Jangles)... and is headed home to introduce him to her cat (a dumped Hinalayan her highle-allergic-to-cats daughter picked up last year) and her three dogs! If that doesn't work, her step sister just lost a black cat and that might be an alternative. Never knew he could be so persuasive! He had her begging us for him! LOL but with Kim, i know he'll have a good home if "Mister Kitty" accepts him!

Me too! Got a text yesterday --- Mr. Beau Jangles (the kitten) and Mister Kitty (the resident Himalayan) made freinds instantly Apaprenlty they played hide and seek all night and both were sleeping it off when she wrote. Don't know how he adpated to the three dogs but if Mister Kitty is protecting him, he should do very well! Now just waiting for Kim to get us a vet bill... he's too young to be neuered, I think, but she said his eyes are now fully green!

Update on the kitten.

He now has a formal name: Beau's Black Magic although he really goes by "Little Guy"...

He has filled out a little and appears to be in good health (except for a small ear infection for which he gets daily drops). DH has already trimmed his claws once becasue Kim (his new furmom) is afraid to try it.

He still loves to be picked up and held although he has NOT turned into a lap cat. He's one of those "I'll sit close to you but not on you" cats.

He has visited here twice since he found his forever home. He is confined during those visits to the sunroom (he likes to explore adn in this house, if he took off, we'd never find him again!; he travels with his fancy littler box and his food dish and water dish and toys and we spend way too much time playing with him!

--- and our cats are NOT happy that we invite him in. They sulk for two or three days after he leaves!
