Can anyone recommend a good bird identification book for the eastern half of the United States? I seem to have a lot of bird activity lately and thought it might be fun to try to identify them.

I've used Peterson's field guides for years, and now with smart phones, I can look them up there.  And the on line sites often have the calls, too.  This is a good article about guides...   http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/faq/master_folder/identification/document_view

Years ago when I lived in NJ I bought a book...I don't remember the name of it offhand but I'll try to remember and post it here.  It's small and has all different kinds of birds broken down into various categories.  I've used it here in Virginia to identify various birds in my yard and at my birdfeeder.  It really is fun so I'm sure  you'll enjoy doing the same thing!
